Day Trip

Thursday we took a drive to a place that the kids and I had never been: Sun Valley. We ate our picnic at the town park in Ketchum.
We stopped at a fish hatchery near Stanley.
Here is the little multi-denominational church including L.D.S in Stanley.

Stanley Lake

I had a feeling before we left to take a change of clothes for Mary. I'm so glad I followed the prompting!

The dredge on Yankee Fork. Very interesting! There is also a little ghost town a mile up the road. But not much that was photo worthy, plus we were tired and didn't get out. It was 6:30 and we were still far from home.

We drove over to Challis and got a bite to eat (lunchables and chocolate milk) just before the only store in town closed at 8 bells. This is Mt. Borah, the highest peak in Idaho. Dennis has climbed it twice. We got home about 10:30 p.m. It was a really full, fun day. I enjoyed hearing all the interesting geology facts that Dennis has stored in his brain. I'm amazed at all the numbers he can remember (like how tall lots of mountain peaks are in every state and nation!) And I'm so grateful for this beautiful earth!

Progress!

Monday Dennis and Jerry Belnap got our addition opened up! You are looking at our new living room.

That night, after a quick family home evening, we all pitched in and got all the lumber and old siding taken care of.

swim camp 09

I'm late getting this posted but here are a few shots of our week at Green Canyon.

Breakfast after the first lesson of the day. Lessons were at 8 and 10 a.m.

Mary was her little independent self. Quite often she would wander up to the pool. We really had to watch her! It was nice to have Jeffrey watch her so much during lessons. He was a great help!

Brandon was able to pass off the tough requirements for his swimming merit badge. Yay!

It was a fun week, but always good to go home!

Well....

It doesn't matter how many times this crashes over my head. I will never get used to it. We learned this week that the cancer is still in my left breast. Back to harsh chemo....

I go back and forth. Sometimes I feel really good and have tons of faith. "The greater the trial, the greater the compliment from a loving Heavenly Father." --President Eyring-- My sister sent me this quote. Other times I really struggle and I cry. I feel totally overwhelmed and frustrated. I try so hard to cling to faith.

Well, I have done it before I can do it again. I have been blessed so abundantly through my trials. I have to remember to count my many many blessing, name them one by one. And it truly does surprise me what the Lord has done!

Dr. Dickson taught us about Joseph in Egypt, how the day he was cast into prison was probably not a very good day. But his mission was to get to know Pharaoh and save all the House of Israel. I know my mission is most likely not that far reaching. But if anything I go through helps the gospel sink deep into the hearts of my children, then anything I suffer will be well worth it. I have to remember this!

clothes line

I noticed last year that my parents had taken down their clothes line. I asked if I could have it and they said yes!
My boys didn't think Dennis could dig such a deep, narrow hole. He's had lots of experience!

Good help!

I have always loved hanging clothes outside. Now that I have my very own clothes line, I watch the laundry basket like a hawk to see if there is enough for a batch. Fortunately 6 kids facilitate that very well.
I think I like it so much because it connects me to the past. I think a lot about the pioneers when I am out there. I think about my mom and my grandmas and their lives and the work they have done for their families. And maybe I also like it so well because I don't have to do it. I choose to do it. And if I'm too tired I can throw everything in the dryer. Heavenly! I feel so blessed for the modern conveniences I've been blessed with.

Three Birthdays

Life has not been too normal lately so I have not gotten birthdays posted! But I want Alexa, Jeffrey and Drew each to know that I love them very much!
Alexa wanted whipped cream on a layered cake.

Jeffrey's birthday fell on a very busy doctor day and he tended his siblings all day. When we were still not home by 6:00 Dennis called and asked him if he could make his own cake. He readily agreed. Then when we got home I helped him make his frosting. He had German chocolate cake.

Drew's was celebrated a couple of days early because we were at swim camp during his actual birthday. He was happy with his donuts. It was easy and we ate them all up and didn't have to worry about leftovers.

Getting Ready for the Hike

Saturday and Sunday we worked to get Jeffrey and Brandon ready for a week of hiking. They left Monday morning and will be back Friday. They had to take food for all their meals and snacks, plus bedding and a tent. They are down by City of Rocks and taking day hikes to different lakes in the area. They will have a base camp so they can carry lighter packs most of the time. Two years ago Jeffrey went on a fifty miler and had to pack his heavy pack everyday. This one was much easier to send them on. I have a hard time thinking my kids may be having a hard time.

Dennis got up with them early Monday to get them to their leader's house. He took these picutres. I'm not sure why Brandon was not wearing a smile. (But it looks to me like he is getting the brunt of the deal with the pack!) I think their packs were about 35 pounds each. Both of them were very excited to go! They were up at 4:30 to get ready because they couldn't sleep.

Alexa's Baptism

I'm doing a few catch-up posts of the month of June. Alexa was baptized on June 17. My mom and 2 of my sisters, Andi and Danna came to help me for the day. It was a WONDERFUL day!Andi and Danna live so far away that they have never been able to come to one of our kids' baptisms. But since we had the baptism 2 days before the Porter reunion, they were both able to come. I was so happy.Alexa was baptized in the same dress that my mom made for me for my baptism. All my sisters wore it and so far all of my mom's granddaughters have worn it to get baptized in. I think that is pretty neat. My mom also made this dress for Alexa (I was planning to make it myself but circumstances did not allow.) Thanks Mom! We love the dress and you too!

The Porter Reunion

The Porter reunion was held in Oxford, Idaho, not far from Weston where my mom grew up. The first night we played the white elephant game, a tradition.
One of the funniest gifts was this strobe light that was on top of my dad's shop for a few years when he had the business Keith's Red Barn Sales. I didn't know he still had it!

The kids enjoyed shooting, a genealogy craft and 4-wheeler rides.Look a likes? I think so! Drew and K.J.Joe and his COOL hair.
We had a sharing night. I had made all these pincushions for the ladies in the family (with a little help from Mom.)

The 5 little 2006 girls are growing!

Here are all the grand kids minus the 4 oldest boys. They were not around for the picture.

And here is the bribery for being in the picture being handed out.

The party continued at Mom and Dad's following Sacrament meeting at the Clifton ward. Dad opened his Father's Day gifts.
